This
weekend, March 4-6, the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance is hosting
a conference called "Save the Heart of Texas -- A Regional Summit
on the Edwards Aquifer and the Hill Country.
Friday afternoon and Sunday morning are workshops and networking of Hill
Country activists. Friday evening is a reception at the Witte Museum, where they
are opening their new "World of Water" exhibit.
The main "public" day is Saturday, with a series of panel
discussions of conservation leaders, business, and government representatives.
I am speaking
on a panel at 11:00 a.m. concerning the planned extensions and expansions of
highways and water lines in the Hill Country.
The conference is taking place at the Carver Cultural Center in San Antonio,
just east of downtown. For anyone interested in attending more than one day,
conference attendees are staying at a nearby Holiday Inn Express.
